At Sewing-sanctuary, we believe that beautiful fabric shouldn’t come at the planet’s expense. Based in Midsomer Norton in the heart of Somerset, we design our own printed fabrics and have them crafted in South Korea — and increasingly, eco-laminated fabric is at the heart of what we do.
Eco-laminated fabric is a textile bonded with a water-based or solvent-free laminate coating, rather than the harsh chemical processes traditionally used in fabric finishing. The result is a material that retains all the qualities you’d expect — water resistance, durability, and a satisfying tactile finish — while significantly reducing the environmental impact of production.
Conventional lamination often relies on PVC or solvent-based adhesives that release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during manufacture and are difficult or impossible to recycle at end of life. Eco-lamination moves away from this, using processes and materials that are kinder to workers, waterways, and the wider environment.
Every design we create starts life here in Somerset, where we put real thought into colour, pattern, and purpose. Our manufacturing partners in South Korea apply rigorous quality standards and embrace more sustainable production methods, including eco-lamination — giving our fabrics a premium finish without unnecessary compromise.
Whether you’re a dressmaker, a quilter, or a crafter looking for fabric that holds its own in practical use, eco-laminated fabric offers the best of both worlds: striking printed designs that look great and last.
We’re a small business, which means every decision we make about materials and manufacturing matters to us personally. Choosing eco-laminated fabric is part of a broader commitment to doing things thoughtfully — for our customers, and for the world we all share.
